Bringing Heaven to Earth

This is how we fight our battles. Taking on our foes and defeating our enemy is not a theory or mystery. The word of God tells stories of how ordinary, everyday people trusted in the miracle-working promise and power of God, and saw the victory of God. This week's devos focus on miracles. Because reading and contemplating on God's great power helps us to be more confident in, and expectant of, God working in our battles as our warrior King. So read, pray and fight on!

"And they will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 1:19

The church has been guilty of over-promising and under-delivering. We throw around phrases like "God is for us," "God is in control," "God’s strong name is our help," to those mired in case histories of family tragedy, career disappointments coupled with a pessimistic world view. It's like waving a red cape in front of a bull.

In the fallout and failures of life, we are expected to explain God to His disappointed clients. But God doesn't need us to defend Him. He doesn't need us as press secretary or public relations agents. We may never have the exact answers to, "Why did this happen to me?" "Why do I feel left in the lurch?"

The proper work for the Christian is witness, not apology. We don't try to argue for God, or explain Him, we simply show Him to others. We are to look at heaven and bring the breathtaking scene to hellish earth. The miracle working power of God, when expressed by the one praying or experienced by the one receiving the unhindered work of God, always has common elements for taking place.

Emulate the example of Jesus

The teaching of Jesus was always accompanied by the demonstration of His power. When Jesus sends disciples, He equips them with the same power. We can do what He did.

Performed by the power of Jesus

No believer ever generates their own power. The demonstration of miracles is the result of the work of God.

Signals salvation from Jesus

Recovery and resurrection were both visible signs of the new life found in Christ Jesus. Life which we sinners are raised up from.

Gives glory to Jesus

When we dig into the trouble and tribulations of others, what we find is God is there in the details and conflicts. Faith is developed out of the most difficult things of life, not the easiest.

How can you bring heaven to earth today?
