Thank you for making our daily devotionals a part of your regular rhythm of loving Jesus, learning His ways and leading others to Him. This week we are exploring the radical truth that Christianity is not about keeping lists, but living by His love. Living a life of obedience involves dying to our selfish ways and putting the priority of Jesus at the top of our heart. This week’s devotionals are intended to challenge and stretch you to greater and deeper obedience. As you contemplate personal obedience and internalize the content, make it a point to use them in your gospel conversations with others. Feel free to post them or pass them on to others. Enjoy the read.
A Unique Calling
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
God called Jeremiah as a young man to be His servant and a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah questioned God and attempted to give excuses as to why God must have chosen the wrong guy.
- Have you ever told God that you were not the person He wanted for a specific task?
- What excuses did you offer?
Much like when God called on Moses to be the leader of the Israelites, Jeremiah saw his weaknesses and shortcoming as blocking him from truly being used by God. Yet, God would not put up with his excuses. He reaffirmed Jeremiah’s identity and reminded him that he was formed and put together intentionally for a purpose. He told him of this unique calling on his life to be a prophet and to speak God’s word to the nations.
Just as God had a unique calling on Jeremiah’s life, He also has one for your life and mine. He designed you with His purposes in mind, and He desires for you to fulfill His purpose, for His glory. He desires for you to realize your gifts and talents, to use them in a special way for His Kingdom and to impact the world. Challenge yourself today to use your unique abilities to share God’s love with others.
Lord, help me to not give in to believing that my weaknesses and failures will stop me from being used by You. Thank you for creating me uniquely in Your image and giving me a special purpose and calling. Because You have done so, my strength, purpose, and future are completely in Your hands. Help me to believe in You and Your calling on my life. Amen.
