The Small Things
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3
What makes God so dear to us is not so much His big blessings or miraculous demonstrations, but the small things. The small things show us just how amazing His intimacy with us really is. As a shepherd who’s aware of His flock, He leads, He restores. Gently He guides us in everyday choices.
Long ago, Jacob spoke of the God who had been his Shepherd all his life. From Exodus onward, Moses reminded them of God’s provision, they had lacked nothing. Upon entering the land of promise, they would lack nothing. We should not be surprised to find Jesus as our Good Shepherd.
No doubt, all of God’s children face difficult times in this life. The Bible tells us that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. The challenge is walking with Jesus so that we stay connected to Him in the midst of the valleys of this life.
Today’s passage provides at least three core principles every Christian should understand:
First, HE RESTORES OUR SOUL. The grace of God restores your weary soul. Sin is the culprit that causes your soul to become weary. As long as you are on this earth you are in a spiritual battle that requires God’s children to be restored. Are you weary today? Take hold of today’s promise that He will restore your soul.
Second, HE REDIRECTS OUR STEPS. The Holy Spirit will be faithful to lead His children down good and right paths in this life. Do you struggle with the reality that you have been traveling the wrong road in life? Repent! Turn to Jesus and confess yourdistance from the Lord, and allow Jesus to lead you down His path of righteousness.
Third, HE RENEWS OUR STRENGTH. Your life is not your own! God created you to be a vessel to display His awesome glory. Today you may be realizing your sin-weary and misdirected condition because you have been fighting the wrong fight. It’s depleted your strength. The shepherd holds a cup brimming with the water of life. He bids all who are weary to drink in new life.
Father, thank You for restoring and leading me.
