Accept the Call
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9, 10
The challenge of following Jesus is being courageous enough to travel on an adventure where only He knows the destiny. Although the Word informs us that there is freedom in His words (John 8:31-32), we must learn what it’s like to be free. There have been many to testify of leaving prisons where there were more years behind bars than years in the free world. They were more comfortable being behind bars, but they were unaccustomed to the ways of living life freely. We understand what it’s like to be bound by the things of this world because we were born into this life. When we accept the call of God, He brings us out of the darkness into His light. He makes us new creatures and the old things have passed away (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). To accept the call is to live a new life (Jeremiah 29:11). It’s a journey that calls for us to follow Jesus on an adventure that brings about new things each and every day. He has not only called us out of something, but He has called us into something, as well. Question: Is the doorway an entrance or an exit? Is the ramp on the highway an entrance or an exit? Is graduation an entrance or an exit? Is a new job an entrance or an exit? The answer is yes to all of these. To accept the call of God is being willing to move from point A to point B. To obey the Lord in His call is much better than sacrifice (Mark 8:34-37). Following the call means following Jesus. What is He calling you to do today?
Lord, as I listen for your still small voice, I pray for the courage to be willing to leave the familiar and walk with You into the unfamiliar. Leaving a place of familiarity may require a sacrifice from me, but I must remember that You have paid the ultimate sacrifice in order that I can be free. Thank you for calling me into hope and a future. My destiny is in your hands, as long as I live my life following the call of my Father. Amen.
