A True View of the New You

Read:

God, the Father, has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1: 13-14

Reflect:

Did you hear that? In Jesus “we have redemption through His blood, through the forgiveness of sin.”  For many Christians, these verses seem too good to be true. Despite such a divine declaration, believers battle feeling unqualified, even disqualified, from God’s presence.

Paul used this phrase when writing to the church in Colossae. It was a phrase worth emphasizing for the believers long ago, and it’s a phrase worth reinforcing in our minds today. The atmosphere of our life is not personal goodness nor is it awareness of our holiness, it’s Jesus’ redemption of our life. Our goodness and holiness are the effect of His redemption, not the cause of it.

If we are in Christ, we have redemption from our sins through His blood. Our sinful state, our deadness apart from Christ, has been given new breath. We have been born again to a new life and a new destiny.

We have to get used to the new truth about ourselves. As long as we are distracted by our own filth, we will never get the full effect of Jesus’ redemption of us. Stop worrying about how you look in your own eyes, and let the cross do its work in you.

If we are in Christ, our sins are forgiven! Our mistakes and failures are no longer counted against us. We have received a pardon we could not have earned. Not only do we have redemption and forgiveness, not only are we righteous before the Father, but we have been delivered from the power of darkness.  By the power of the Holy Spirit within us, we have the ability not to continue in our sins.

So be encouraged today! You are a new creation. God’s mercies are new every day. You have redemption through Jesus’ blood, the forgiveness of your sins. The power of darkness will not prevail in your life!

Respond:

Father, help me know the fullness of your love and grace. Help me to live daily in the forgiveness and redemption You give.
