This week begins several weeks of stand-alone messages, along with daily devotionals, so be sure to check back daily. If these devotionals have had an impact on you, we would love for you to share them with your friends.
“giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.” Colossians 1:12
Great conduct is the expression of great belief. Christians fail to grasp the finished work of Christ, a new relationship that exists between God and the believer has already been accomplished in Christ; a freedom won by redemptive love given to us through Christ. The grand discovery of our inheritance causes the soul to worship, “It’s done, I am the Lord’s and He is mine.”
Paul was again praying for Christ followers, for “the saints in the light” and thanking God for the inheritance He has for His people throughout eternity. The Colossians, like many believers today, felt like second class citizens in God’s kingdom, they had not completely understood their full inheritance.
What do we know about that inheritance? Our inheritance is more than just a thought in the mind of God, it’s more than a dream in the human heart. It’s our actual present reality. God is living in you. Jesus has qualified us and delivered us.
The Lord Jesus is now our portion and there can be no richer inheritance than that. It’s not the result of our good behavior, it’s the result of the redemptive work of Jesus.
When we are redeemed from our sinful ways of living apart from God, we receive a inheritance that certainly includes heaven. In addition, we inherit the presence of God in our inner man. Our spirit is made alive in Christ, as His might and power work in us. Jesus grants us inner strength “for all patience and longsuffering with joy.” The Father has qualified us to be partakers in this inheritance, and clearly that is a reason to – like Paul – give thanks.
Jesus secured our inheritance. We call Him our Lord, He places His Holy Spirit within us. And the Spirit strengthens us, fills us with knowledge, and blesses us with wisdom and understanding. And that rich inheritance will never fade.
Lord, thank You for my eternal inheritance. Fill me today with Your Spirit that I may know strength and wisdom for this part of my journey of life.
