1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Three Words

Read:

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Reflect:

Near the end of Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth are wonderful words for us believers today. Here are three words of wisdom for living out our faith:

Watch. As we watch the events taking place in our world today, we see a continual drift away from the Word of God as the guide for decisions made by organizations, and individuals. The saddest note is that some of these who are drifting, name Jesus as their Savior. Unfaithfulness taking place around us should not discourage or cause our faith to waver.

Commit. In obedience to Christ, don’t compromise biblical beliefs in order to accommodate the world. Every person must decide who or what will be the authority in his or her life. Will it be the philosophy of the day, or will it be God’s will? To fully commit to God’s ways will require bravery and strength to live differently from the culture.

Remember. You stand in the power of Christ; you do not stand alone. Put differently, Christ stands with us when we stand for Him. His power enables us to share His love, even when we are oppressed, threatened, or abused for our faith in Jesus. Though we may not feel the emotion of love, we as His disciples still can operate from the love of God.

Respond:

Father, throughout history Your followers have stood strong in their commitment to follow You. I know I won’t have that strength if I stand apart from You. Help me today to be unwavering in my faith and my obedience to You. Help me to show Your love to other people and use me to help individuals place their faith in You.
