2 Peter 1:3-4

Participating with Jesus

Read:

“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, . . .” 2 Peter 1:3-4

Reflect:

To be a Christian means to be like Christ. And in order to be more like Him, we must learn to partake in his divine nature. In other words, we are to participate in His life. We must let Him — not our instincts — guide our lives. His will for us must become far more important to us than our own desires for ourselves. Through the cross we are declared to be sinless. And in the pursuit of Godliness we are called to sinless. Applying God’s exceedingly great promises changes the way we view living.

The divine nature of Jesus is most noticeable in our attitude. We do not have to go to church; we get to go to church. We do not have to serve others; we get to serve others. We do not have to praise Him; we get to praise Him. We do not have to give; we get to give. Try having the attitude that, even if no one else is going to have a great day in the Lord, you will. Choose every morning to live in the attitude of Jesus.

Participating with Jesus need not remain a mystery. There are practical steps for participating in the power of the promise and knowledge given to us in Jesus:

  • Rest in the Lord: pray throughout the day.
  • Nutrition: feed your soul with the regular intake of God’s word.
  • Exercise Your Faith: worship more. Spend time with other believers. Have spiritual conversations with those who are searching.

Respond:

Lord Jesus, help me to grow strong in You. Help me to be fit spiritually so that You can use me and so that when others see me, they get a glimpse of You in me! Amen
