Join us this season as we RETHINK CHRISTMAS by refocusing our attention on Jesus, who, as the MAKER of creation, was born in a MANGER taking on all our limitations; who went to the cross, defeated every foe as the rightful MESSIAH, and ascended to be seated on the throne in MAJESTY. Make our daily Devos a part of your regular rhythm of spiritual growth.
". . . but born of God." John 1:13
The longest trip one will ever take will not be to drive from coast to coast. It won't be to fly one way around the world. It won’t be a cruise to a remote island. Nor will it be to walk from one end of your state to the other.
The longest trip for all of us to travel – from the head to the heart, just 18 inches – can take years to complete. The journey is to move from mental accent, to acceptance with the heart. It's one thing to believe Jesus, it’s quite another to experience Him.
In our society today, knowledge is the intellectual affirmation of a perceived data. However, in the world of faith, knowledge is felt, it arises from an experience with God in faith and love, rather than hard, cold information. Knowledge is the result of an encounter with Jesus the Christ.
The Christian life is impossible to understand without running smack into the transcendent, Immanent Christ. There’s no getting around it, Christianity is not a message to be believed, but an experience of Jesus that becomes a message.
We cannot derive anything about Jesus from our assumption about God. We can derive everything about God from what we know about Jesus. Jesus is the earthquake which crumbles all our comforting, limiting ideas about God that we have for so long relied on, so that Jesus can be known on God’s terms.
Complete engagement with Jesus affects both the spiritual and physical arenas of our life since He belongs to both. This experience is the moment faith and hope are united producing that which never existed in us – a trusting disciple.
The journey from the head to the heart is not reserved for a privileged few, but is offered to the strong and weak, the rich and poor, to the educated and uneducated, to anyone seriously seeking to find the God of Jesus.
Being born again makes you alive from the center, we move from knowing to being loved as we are. The Holy Spirit moves us along in the journey from the head to the heart of simple, naked trust.
In You, Lord Jesus, my uncertainty gives way to confidence. In You, my insecurity gives way to deep security.
