John 1:9

Join us this season as we RETHINK CHRISTMAS by refocusing our attention on Jesus, who, as the MAKER of creation, was born in a MANGER taking on all our limitations; who went to the cross, defeated every foe as the rightful MESSIAH, and ascended to be seated on the throne in MAJESTY. Make our daily Devos a part of your regular rhythm of spiritual growth.

Data of the Divine

Read:

"There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man." John 1:9

Reflect:

Everybody has ideas about God, many are pulled out of thin air. However, the most credible, the one that moves us beyond mere speculation, the one which provides the most concrete understanding of God, the very Fountainhead from which springs the true life-giving image of God, is based on an accomplished fact.

In the incarnation, we see who God is and how He works. God became man and dwelt among us and they called Him Jesus. In Jesus, we have not some vague expectation, but a concrete happening, the data of the divine, the gospel truth. Yet, for many the struggle is to base their life on this faithful fact.

God, who has appeared to us, is the One whom we have at times ditched, dodged, and ducked. At times we felt God was in our way, we saw Him more as an enemy than as a friend. At times we suspected Him of being harsh and severe, we neglected Him and never thought twice about striking back in anger and disobedience. In spite of our belief, regardless of our choices, God has done something wonderful on our behalf.

God, through compassion and sympathy with us, has broken through all our barriers, excuses, and unreasonableness, through every obstacle we have built between us and Him. He broke through and took our place.

God sent Jesus who committed no sin, never caused hurt, or brought injury, nor did evil to others, the One who is all good, perfectly innocent, took on our sin-filled condition as though it were His own. He lived as one of us, He himself bore our sickness, all the bitter and hardest things in life, all the loneliness in death. In His own experience, He combined all the agonies of sinning and suffering, all the sorrows and sadness.

All this He did because His nature compelled Him to do it. He is a God of love and could not bear His creation being separated from Him. God is not estranged from us, He is compassionate and was absorbed in us in a way we could never fathom. He forgives our misapprehension, our coldness and carelessness, He loves you more than you can imagine.
