Psalm 17:6-8

Confident Trust

Read:

I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings. Psalm 17:6–8

Reflect:

God hears! And this is no trivial truth. Regardless of our status, education, culture, language, income, or color, God hears us. Whether we are succeeding or surrounded by unimaginable trouble, He still hears us. We may be walking in purity or choosing sin’s darkness. Still, God hears. He hears prayers spoken from a cathedral as well as from the darkest jail cell. God hears.

But there is more! God hears and He responds with “lovingkindness, by [His] right hand.” The right hand symbolizes authority and power. Jesus sits at God’s right hand (Mark 16:19), and Jesus cares for us with His right hand. So the message of these verses is “When you call, God hears and responds . . . always.”

Furthermore, David described us in this psalm as the apple of God’s eye, as the object of His great love. The Almighty promises to hide you under His wings, a place of safety where not one of the enemy’s schemes can harm you. Hear the Father God’s assurance that nothing will ever take place in life that is beyond His ability, power, and willingness to rescue and redeem.

Respond:

Thank You, Lord, for faithfully hearing and responding to my prayers. Thank You, Savior, for always welcoming me when I come running to You. And thank You that I find peace in the fact that You extend Your lovingkindness to me always.
