During this season of Advent, we will be taking a break from our study in the Book of Mark and will instead offer daily devotionals for you to read aloud with your family, pertaining to this Advent season. We will resume our study of Mark in a few weeks.
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son . . .” Matthew 1:23
There has never been anyone like Jesus. He was not a man who achieved a God-like status. He’s God who became man. He came into this world from the outside. Jesus’ birth was an amazing advent, literally the appearance of God in human form, bursting into this world in an unexpectedly humble way – as a helpless baby.
No single event in history has changed the world so radically and dramatically as the birth of Jesus. Jesus, being absolutely holy, became human in total humility. No one person has created more diverse opinions. Many disagree about His identity, His mission and His deity, but none can deny that this first century new birth changed the world. And all those who know Him personally, proudly proclaim He has forever transformed their lives.
God’s heart desire is for every person to experience their own personal advent. Just as Jesus was born into this world, in a stable in Bethlehem, so He must be born in the Bethlehem stable of the heart. It’s impossible for an individual to enter the kingdom without being born again from above. Jesus enters our world, lovingly stands before us, and says “you must be born again.” The new birth is based on God’s power.
In glad surrender, we are to yield ourselves completely to the Son; His nature is formed and redemption begins the intimate work of change. This is the evidence of the new birth. The presence of Jesus makes the impossible possible.
Throughout history, believers all over the world have celebrated Advent. The word Advent means arrival. For Christians, it’s also the name given to the four weeks that precede Christmas day. We fill these weeks with attentive anticipation and spiritual preparation for the celebration of Jesus.
Amazing advent is coming. The celebration of Advent is a new experience for some. And for others it’s another Advent to add to the many celebrated in the past. No matter the case, our prayer at Church Project for you is that you will use these scriptures and devotionals as a guide to walk in the Spirit of Advent and to gain a clearer vision of the child born in a stable whose life changed the world.
Has your life become a personal Bethlehem for the Son of God?
